Places to Visit

You are almost spoiled for choice of places to visit and things to do in Nice. For a few ideas, please read the following pages:

Colline du Chateau

Situated between the Port and Old (Vieux) Nice The summit of his rocky outcrop offers glorious views over the Baie des Anges, Old Nice and the Port, You can get to the top using steps rising from the foot of the Old town and the bay or from gradiated pathways starting on the port side. For those not wanting to make the climb there is a lift - an ‘ascenseur’ on the town side. If you are wondering where the chateau is, there isn't one, just the ruins of the old Cathedral of Nice which was built upon Roman remains. There is a waterfall worth visiting and the ‘Cimitieres de Nice’ provide a fascinating template of the grand seafaring families of Nice.

Try to catch the view at sunset, just before the park closes. Pick a fine clear evening and enjoy the sun as it sinks below the horizon, leaving its legacy of pink on the darkening blue sky. At dusk the city lights begin to form a sparkling necklace along the magnificent sweep of the Baie des Anges and in the distant skyline you may see the shadow of Cap d'Antibes ,or even as far as the undulations of The Esterel, the gateway to St Tropez. And below you, the Cours Saleya starts to glow with life and all Nice becomes a glittering mosaic of street and apartment lights backed by darkened hills.

In summer you can take your time but in winter with the sunsetting a little after 17.30. the Parc du Chateau closes it’s gates at 18.30.
