Winter In Nice
The Cote d’Azur offers you a great all year round destination and vacation and variety that could last you a lifetime.
As well as having an almost perfect climate,Nice also provides access to winter activities. Although it rarely gets snow ( last year made it twice in the last 65 years) the Alps, are just an hours drive away and even non skiers can enjoy lunch on the slopes.
You can ice skate in Nice
For about 3 weeks in December the Place Massena (a large square separating the Old Town from the modern city) is converted into an outdoor ice-skating rink and surrounded by a Christmas Village (wooden huts!) selling gifts, foods and drinks. Across the road, there is a walkway of white Christmas trees and a Big Wheel. The rink is taken up at the end of December but the Big Wheel stays in place until the famous Nice Carnival is over at the end of February.
There is an Olympic indoor ice-skating rink or 'Patinoire' at the Jean Bouin Palais de Sports Centre, by the Acropolis Exhibition Centre, just north of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Skates can be hired just opposite the rink and there are four 1 - 1 1/2 hour sessions a day. Warm clothes are a good idea plus gloves; in fact there are notices saying that gloves must be worn.
You can fall in love with Nice any time of year. This is a magic place and you don’t have to be rich to enjoy it. Sit on the left handside of the plane on your flight home and catch a glimpse of a farewell sunset.
